WTN: 2005 Cave Spring Riesling (Niagra, Canada) with bonus bear photo!

Tasting note from one of the few wines I had in Canada (16 days there and 9 of them dry...what's wrong with this picture)

Speaking of dry...almost but not quite bone dry. Decent acidity levels and a pleasing peachy and floral nose. Lacking a little in the mid-palate and finish, but as an aperitif it was drinkable. It could not stand up to the honey & chili calamari though.

The restaurtant (The Bison) in Banff was excellent. And in case you think I had forgotten, here's a photo from the trip...a little too ornery to eat...

I've enjoyed Cave Spring Riesling for quite a while. Very reasonably priced in our area and available in many restaurants here, on the US side of the river. However, a vist to their winery (with PaulB) last spring was a bit of a letdown as all they had was a tasting room in a old mall.

I know nothing about the wine...but hey, that bear! What kind of bear protection do you carry with you when you hike?

Usually none. Firearms are not allowed in the park, and if you are close enough to use bear spray you are too close.

David,
Is it still suggested to wear bells when hiking in the woods, to let bears know you're coming rather than being surprised? (reduces photo ops though!)
Glad you and Laura made it back rather than being stuffed on the wall of a bear cave!

When I am in forested areas, I always yell every 300 yards. Something like"dooooooooooooooris" seems to work. Emphasis on the "r"!!!

We talk a lot and yell a bit. Grizzly bears like bells. They're tasty.
