Wine grapes said to be plentiful in New York this year

With 31,000 acres of vineyards, 239 wineries and nearly 1,400 grape farms, New York is the nation's third largest wine producer and third largest grape grower behind California and Washington. It typically churns out about 200 million bottles of wine each year, generating more than $1 billion in sales.
Harsh winters in 2004 and 2005 left many wineries "low on inventory, so they're looking to replenish their warehouses," [Jim] Trezise said. "The reputation of New York wines keeps going up and up, and so people really want them."
That rising demand could persuade growers to turn a larger percentage of their Concord, Niagara and other native grapes into wine instead of grape juice, Trezise said.
