2004 Lingenfelder Grosskarlbacher Burgweg Scheurebe Kabinett Halbtrocken - Germany, Pfalz (8/14/2006)
This wine has been consistently enjoyable since release about a year ago. Sage, grapefruit, pineapple and a little bit of finishing red fruit make for an enjoyably varied aromatic and taste experience. The acidity is fairly gentle, so don't look to this wine for an electric experience, but rather something utterly drinkable (perhaps too drinkable). In one of the most mundane food and wine pairing experiments ever, I was having a couple of slices of Boar's Head ham, and the scheurebe was a perfect match. The sage element blossomed and the fruit in the finish lengthened considerably. The ham tasted better with the wine as well. So if you're having a ham sandwich here's your wine. Go figure.
