Any TN's/opinions of this Selbach-Oster 2006 Auslese

by Jim Grow » Sun Oct 18, 2009 3:21 pm

I recently bought a couple of bottels of the 2006 Selbach-Oster Bernkasteler Badstube Riesling Auslese * for what I thought was the very good price of $26. I normally do not buy Auslese as many are too sweet for the table and not sweet enough for dessert. I was told this bottle more closely resembles a Berrenauslese. Has anyone out there tasted it and if so, is this true? From the reputation of this producer, I would think these bottles may age and improve for many years/decades into the future.

I haven't tasted it Jim, but 06 Auslesen in general were a big, ripe bunch (and not far from BA level, in many cases already around there).

That said Selbach-Oster is one of the most reliable and consistent producers in Germany so I reckon you've got yourself a really good deal there. I've only had his Spatlese and a Kabinett from 06, but all were outstanding and I've not seen any notes on his higher-pradikat wines in 06 indicating anything less than excellent.

750s or 375s?

If the former, that sounds like a good deal.

Either way, enjoy!

I agree with you there. I don't own a whole lot (19 bottles 2001-2007), but often wonder why I haven't bought more.
