WTN: 2005 Rudi Pichler Riesling Smaragd Wachau

Rich and expressive aromas of white flowers and minerals (gunflint, wet slate) laced with a touch of yeast. Lively acidity, just the right amount of bitterness, delicious fruit, excellent acid/sweet balance, good and dense mouth weight. Excellent!

Even though the winery is considered the "lesser" Pichler, I've consistently had very solid wines. This sounds great, thanks!

I've heard lots of good things about Rudi Pichler particularly in the last few years - I need to try a few of his more recent releases. Thanks for the note, that sounds lovely.

Really? I thought they were just different styles. And therefore very much in the eye of the beholder. Although my historical knowledge here is far from detailed.
