Continuing our exploration of this rarely varietally bottled and labeled Bordeaux grape.
This was a bit of a discovery, actually. Wow, in fact. When tasted a couple of years ago at the tasting room in St. Helena, this was a bright, berry fruit-dominated slurper. A couple of years of warmish storage has had some nice evolutionary effects. While the Urbano Lodi Petit Verdot on Tuesday said "Northern Rhone," this wine shouted "Bordeaux" in a big way!
Color: dark purple with ruby highlights.
Nose: Very Bordeaux with a distincitve earthy savory funky note.
This continued through on the palate. Definitely some strong tannins when first popped and poured, but these smoothed out nicely. The wine is all about the leather and the earth and the tobacco underneath. The berry fruit is still there, but the wine is no longer primary or fruity, it has evolved very nicely! 93 points+ I wonder if they have any of this left? It's not mentioned on the website now.
