Does this pairing make sense?

A local wine shop is putting on a wine dinner and here is the lineup. I'm puzzled by bolded matchup.

The menu is Prosciutto Wrapped Scampi which will be paired with a Cabernet/Merlot/Syrah blend from Goose Ridge, Fresh Pasta Primavera paired with a Santa Barbara Chardonnay from Geode, Panko Crusted Grilled Chicken Medallions paired with an Edna Valley Pinot Noir from Tolosa and then finish up with Tiramisu for a climax.

What is there that would make this work? I just can't see it.

Blah!!!

Of course it's still miles better than 2000 Ridge Monte Bello paired with grapefruit sorbet (yes...that was real).

While I generally hesitate to say something won't work that I haven't actually tried, I think I'll make an exception. This seems like a pairing to diminish both wine and especially dish.

Well, that's what I thought too. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't off in la-la land (wine-wise, that is).

They'd be better off switching out the chardonnay and cab/merlot.
