WTN: Fabulous 2003 German Riesling

by Jim Grow » Thu Oct 08, 2009 8:47 pm

I bought this 2003 Burklin-Wolf Gaisbohl Riesling Trocken (QBA) recently for $20 said to be marked down from some ridculous figure ($30-40-50) and am very glad I did. This is undoubtedly the most expensive QBA I have ever bought but times and quality change. Light straw in color with a peachy nose, the flavors were strong peach, slight herb and a very nice slightly spritzy acidity. I will definitely be going back for more of this wine!

Jim - more than likely this was no mere QbA, but rather a spatlese trocken that was deliberately sold without pradikat.

You are probably right David. The bottle was quite heavy and carried an abv of %13. With crab cakes it was a sublime experience.

Heavy bottle, no pradikat, high price tag...grosses gewachs imitator. Could be great, could be awfully overpriced.

Glad it worked for you. The food match sounds like a delicious idea.
