WTN: 2003 Hill Family Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

Nose had an unpleasant stewed note that suggested the peak is past for this cabernet...yet...at another moment, the nose was rich with chocolate and cassis notes. I'm glad I opened this now...it's not going to get better. Palate was better...great rich, ripe fruit. Definitely a Napa Valley style wine, all about the quite nice blackberry fruit, with elements of chocolate and cassis. Decent acidity. Oak not dominating, and neither was the alcohol. Beautiful, rich berry fruit, though. I'm guessing Oakville or Stags' Leap fruit?

Quite decent Napa Valley Cabernet. I've enjoyed the two bottles of this family's wine quite a bit. 89/90 points?
