A few brief notes, mostly from memory:
1995 Latricieres=Chambertin, Domaine Newman: A very small estate in Gevrey apparently owned by an American, which may have some connection to the Castagnier estate in Morey. Somewhat hazy carmine with just a tiny bit of brick. The nose is nothing special with some Burgundian poop and berries. On the palate there are black cherries and a rusty/bloody notes, good grip and decent length. Not a monster, but medium-bodied with some firm tannins still around. Drinkable now, or keep for another 5 years. Seems like an honestly made wine that just fails to excite.
2007 Godello, Alma de Blanco (Bodegas Pazo das Tapias), DO Monterrei: Pale, youthful looking stuff with a lovely floral nose. Nice attack of melon with more floral notes, but falls short with a thinish mineral finish. I'll stick to Vina Godeval for Godello.
2007 Alvarinho Muros Antigos (Anselmo Mendes), Vinho Verde (Moncao) and 2006 Alvarinho Quinta do Regueiro, Vinho Verde: Lumping these together, since they are very similar. Both show more gold than would be typical in say a dry riesling of 2-3 years. Mineral/melon on the nose, with more pear/melon on the palate. Both have excellent balance with the Mendes wine showing a bit more fruit and gingery spicyness while the Regueiro is more mineral and nuanced. Good stuff from Portugal.
