WTN: Goats Do Roam in Villages Shiraz-Pinotage 2007

by Bruce Hayes » Sun Sep 20, 2009 12:26 pm

Fairview
WO Coastal Region

A blend of Shiraz (90 per cent), Pinotage (6.5) and Mourvedre.

Very dark purple in the glass.

Cherry pie, earthy, smoke and a hint of brett on the nose.

Thick in the mouth, smoky, tangy acidity, round and rich, black cherry, red currants, chocolate, tarry, floral, red licorice, quite fruit-forward, drying toward the end.

With time, the wine became a bit drier and some light tannins began to show, but it remained quite rich and big.

Drying, a hint of brett and light tannin on the finish.

A whole lot of wine for the money. I think this will only get better with a year or two in the cellar.

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at $15.95 (Canadian) and a great value at that price.

Agreed. I only bought one to try. Have gone back to the store to pick up a few more.
