WTN: 2001 Pape Clement

by Matt Richman » Sun Sep 20, 2009 7:41 am

2001 Château Pape Clément (France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan)

Dense and concentrated. Lots of dark flavors, burnt oak, licorice, espresso, black olive, walnut with a juicy deep fruit. Long somewhat bitter finish. Classy, suave and full flavored. Has some nice green herbs as well. This is drinking a bit young, but not closed. Good now but this will continue to evolve for years to come. Very very nice.

Matt,
Thanks for the notes on this wine. I’ll take your optimistic view and hold-off on my solitary bottle. See you in a few days.
