WTN: 1996 Roagna Barolo La Rocca e La Pira 13.5%

1996 Alfredo e Giovanni Roagna Barolo La Rocca e La Pira DOCG 13.5%
Yummy. Aromas are fleeting and changeable, shape shifting over the course of the evening between a dizzying array of sour cherry, church spices, cloves, violets, rosemary, the lightest burnt rubber, cloves, game and eucalyptus. Never all at once, as if preoccupied with an etiquette of subtlety and delicacy, or with maintaining one's attention, should it wander, though there's little chance of that. Perfect acidity, mellow yet grippy tannins, lovely mouthfeel. Has many years ahead of it, but already beginning to give that fine, mature Barolo experience. Barol'over Beethoven, La Rocca & Roll!

Oi Parsons! (waves fist)

Seriously though, I definitely noted this post, but with no experience of the producer, and nothing really to add, I stayed quiet. Good to see it posted though.

We're sort of prematurely getting into a Piemonte mood, since we're going to be there from November 1 to 8.

If any of you gentlemen and ladies of the board care to cross paths with us, you're welcome to piggy back on our appointments.

Good to hear 1996 Barolos are beginning to show well. Fall is, imo, the perfect time for Nebbiolos, with risotto and truffles - ymmmm!

Maybe this was helped along its way by being a 375...

Those of us who are entering Spring with Nebbiolos salute you!

Temperatures fell all the way into the 40s. I even had to put on a jacket.
