WTN: Oak Heights Estate Chardonnay 2007

by Bruce Hayes » Mon Sep 14, 2009 5:55 pm

Niagara Peninsula

Fairly dark yellow in the glass.

Charred and heavy oak on the nose.

Lemon, apple, rather plump and full in the mouth, not much in the way of acidity, except for toward the end. After a glass or two, the wine fell apart and the heavy vanilla and caramel flavours took over, obscuring everything else. We were unable to finished even half the bottle. Can't understand why people continue to oak wines to death.

Purchased at $14.95 (Canadian).

Thanks for the note Bruce.

Ugh, that does sound like a nasty wine - oak overkill, and overpriced too. I have had a few like that in the past from Niagara, but thankfully they have been very rare.
