WTN: Clos Les Lunelles 2001

by Matt Richman » Tue Sep 08, 2009 5:19 pm

2001 Clos Les Lunelles (Côtes de Castillon)

Deep purple fruit with a flowery high tone and a hint of dark tar. A suave wine in the making with some nice minty herbal notes. Not over the top modern, there is a strong toasted oak note. This is still several years away from it's prime drinking window, but was a nice drink tonight as well.

It is a rich and fun (if not being traditionally judgmental) wine. The 2004 is also quite good, as it the 2005.

Although I've not had them back to back, I prefer the '01 to the '04. I have not had the '05 but I hope to try it one day.

I too prefer the '01, as I find the '04 is a touch rough in the tannins, but time might tame that.

I agree exactly. For what I consider a suave wine, the '04 was nearly rustic.

What's the '05 like? Worth the $?
