WTN: Four From Friday...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Sun Sep 06, 2009 2:48 pm

Tried these at table w/ Susan's French visitor, Nellie:
1. Moillard Domaine du Chateau d'Eau (12.5%) 2007: Pale gold color; very light pear/fruity slight earthy almost no nose; soft very watery/dilute weak pear/stoney flavor; very short almost no very watery finish; must have been cropped at 10 tons/acre; a totally vapid example of Viognier; Chateau name seems appropriate; way overpriced at $14.00 when you can get the same experience from your tap.

2. Domaine GeorgesVernay Viognier LePied de Samson Vin de Pays des Collines Rhodaniennes (12.8%) 2007: Light gold color; light pear/peach/Viog slight earthy nose; slightly more acid bu still soft very light pear/peach/Viog slight stoney rather dilute flavor; med.short light pear/peach/Viog finish; as some Viog character but very weak; must have been cropped at 9 tons/acre; disappoointing for a Vernay and way overpriced at $35.00

Ah, yes. Shame about the late great Long Vineyards.
