My neighbor popped a bottle of the Diamond Mountain red blend (Napa) tonight for us to try. It's bigger and richer and more oozy than what we normally drink, but I have to say that it was all of that in ways I appreciated. It had been a long day, and sometimes it's just nice to drink a big friendly bear rug of a wine that makes no demands on you. Most notably, this lacks slick fruit and grapiness that I so dislike about so many super young New World big reds, and instead there's some unfiltered burly-rusticity and a handful of delicious dirt amid the well endowed plum, herbs and chocolate. I'd guess there's a lot of merlot and cab franc in the blend. At any rate, it's quite the wine for $20.
My wine shopping and I have never had a problem. Just a perpetual race between the bankruptcy court and Hell.--Rogov
