WTN: Ah Romance ('98 Donnhoff Auslese)

by David M. Bueker » Fri Sep 04, 2009 9:25 pm

1998 Donnhoff Oberhauser Brucke Riesling Auslese

Corked to hell and back. Thank God for the Portuguese menace. Without it my life would be incomplete.

At least there was '04 Truchot Clos Sorbes to salve my wounds (no greenies).

Ouch, David, that hurts! If I were you I'd write a note to Dönnhoff and let him know about it, if only to see what his reaction would be.
Cheers,
Anders

What could he possibly say? This is a routine occurence.

Actually at one time I relayed my experience of several corked bottles of the '01 Donnhoff Leistenberg Kabinett to Terry Theise. He passed it on to Helmut Donnhoff who offered to provide a replacement case (I had bought a case). I declined, as I just wanted Terry/Helmut to be on the lookout for problems, but the offer was appreciated.

And that is exactly what is so terrible about it.

That it is routine, and that we accept it.

My level of acceptance is getting lower. I was not able to keep my vow of nothing but screw caps for 2008, but I have bought 60% less cork finished wine from the 2008 German vintage than in my least collected vintage. This equates to about 2 cases of wine with cork. Still two cases too many but we're getting there.
