WTN: Delightful Descombes Brouilly!!!!

2006 G. Descombes Brouilly Cru Beaujolais

This was an utterly delightful wine on a scorching hot late summer evening! After a nice appertif-the tangy, delicious Chablis "Les Champs Royaux" from William Fevre, we poured this puppy into our glasses. Definitely an earthy wine, and Brett-phobes should be cautious because the dread baccillus provided a delicious funky note underneath the fruit...which I enjoyed quite a bit. Overlaying the earth and the funk, though, was a delightful blast of berry fruit...oodles of berry flavor with an amazing joyful sharp (in a good way...maybe "piercing" is a better term) core of acidity. One of the best Beaujolais I have ever tasted...but there is that funky note, so be cautious!

Brett in Beaujolais - who would have thought.

Actually sounds like a lovely night with the Fevre and the Descombes.

When you throw in the fantastic jazz quintet that night (scorching guitarrist and sax player), it was a nice evening.

The Fevre is a fantastic Charddonay, imho. I love tangy wines.
