Here's an '07 Cotes du Rhone that doesn't quite live up to the reputation of the vintage. I won't use the term "hype" because a lot of '07s really are delicious and are great bargains.
- 2007 Domaine Brusset Côtes du Rhône Laurent Brusset - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône (8/30/2009)
Black core, lightening to dark purple at the rim. Simple nose of ripe dark fruits and cherries, light-medium body with decent simple fruit on entry, acid and alcohol quickly come to the fore, and fruit fades somewhat quickly with lingering noticeable alcohol (bottle says 13%) on the finish. Decent match with grilled ribeyes, which hid the acid and alcohol. No better than good, and probably a reasonable value at $12, but not inspiring enough to want to buy more, and I've had much better '07 Cotes du Rhone for only a few dollars more.
