WTN: I drink an Aussie without a gun to my head

by David M. Bueker » Tue Aug 25, 2009 8:18 pm

2000 Cullen Wines Diana Madeline
Salil introduced me to this about a year ago, and I bought some. I haven't opened one since, but I was grilling a steak & thought I would have a Cabernet to celebrate the coming end (tomorrow night) of this blasted heat we've been having in the Northeast. I love the balance on this. Even in a 78 degree room it shows no heat, and the slightly mature fruit and leather elements just work with the medium rare beef.

Delish!

You drank it and you liked it? Is that cooling you're expecting at least partly due to hell freezing over?

Good stuff. I really like this wine a lot (in pretty much any vintage) - one of my favourite Aussie Cabs with really nice balance and depth. Glad you enjoyed this (although I'm surprised you didn't wait for the heat to end before opening this).

David

Well done. I am glad to see you really like what is regarded as one of the top half dozen cabs produced in Australia. Clearly they must be doing something right. :) Actually you are kind of lucky with this wine as 2000 was not a good vintage out west. Although that might explain why it is drinking so well at such a young age. Have you tried the Moss Wood Cab Savs yet? If you like the Cullen, you might also like these.
