2007 Cloudline Pinot (Oregon)

by Brian K Miller » Tue Aug 25, 2009 11:10 am

After a long day, I was given a taste of this quite nice modestly priced Oregon Pinot by Beau at Wine Styles. Dark ruby in color. Very noticeable blast of acid up front....Some might suggest it is unbalanced, but I like blasts of acid, so...Bright cherry fruit...not too confected so pleasant. Definitely an earthy tang, almost Sangiovese-like in character (there's the acid again). A nice quaffing Pinot for the end of the night.

Hmmm. I have looked at this in the store a number of times but it has never made it into the cart. I guess that will change next trip. Thanks for the note.

Had this over Thanksgiving last year. I found it agreeable, but for $15 I wouldn't buy again.

Cloudline, Pinot Noir, Oregon 2007
Deep but clear ruby. Cranberry, cherry, and raspberry, in a ripe-ish and pure style. Medium bodied. Nice fruit but could be better balanced. Very Good (85 - 87). [11/27/08]

I can see how one might compare it to Sangiovese, but for me it would need to be a lot earthier to be attractive in the same way.

Haven't had the 07, but I've had a few vintages in the past and the brand seems stylistically inconsistent--extracted one year, not so much the next, and so forth. Almost like they're buying bulk juice vs. pursuing a house style.
