Short notes from a samples tasting at The Wine Museum.
Grao Vasco White Dao 2008 - Grapes are Encruzado, Bical and Malvasia Fina. Floral nose. Light and lemony. Shrill acidity. Unripe pineapple. Not for me.
Grao Vasco Alentejo 2006 - Grapes are Alicante Bouschet, Aragones and Trincadeira. Light color. Good nose. Fruity, cherry and strawberry. A little smoky. Firm acidity. Pleasant enough wine for quaffing.
Grao Vasco Douro 2006 - Grapes are Tinta Roroz, Touriga Franca and Touriga Nacional. Very dry. Light bodied. Decent fruit. Tannic. Just OK.
Grao Vasco Dao 2007 - Grapes are Jaen, Tinta Roriz, and Touriga Nacional. Deep nose but light bodied. Dried herbs. Uninteresting.
Callabriga Alentejo 2006 - Very dark. Nice nose. Ripe fruit. Plum. Very modern. Unfortunately, too much oak.
Callabriga Dao 2007 - Very dark. Fruity nose. Well-balanced. Medium to light-bodied. A bit spicy. Dried fruit. Tannic. Good length. Good.
Callabriga Douro 2007 - Very dark. Stewed fruit, cherry jam, meaty, leather. Good complexity. Tannic finish. Decent length. Good now but could probably improve with age.
Callabriga Reserve Alentejo 2004 - Linement. Very nice nose. Leather, espresso, spicy, cumin, a little prune. Sweet fruit. Quite complex. Firm acidity on tannic finish. Very good.
Jansz Tasmanian Sparkling 2002 - Very fine bead. Plump. White chocolate and mango. Fresh lemon rind finish. Very nice and refreshing.
