WTN: Nice Virginia Riesling

by Jim Grow » Sun Aug 23, 2009 2:55 pm

I was down at my buddy's cabin in the woods this week-end and we usually have fish so I took along a 2006 Rockbridge Vineyard White Riesling. It was semi-sweet, %2 res. sugar, but full of nice apple and a bit of melon flavors with real good acidity. I mostly bought this as I live in (outside) Rockbridge Ohio. Screw cap and about $10 from D.C. It went great with fresh sauteed Chanterelles and L Erie perch. A most memorable meal!

Thanks for the note. When Virginia wines can be had for prices like that they are real QPRs.

I will look for that one Jim. Virginia Rieslings can be quite good, as can all east coast Reislings. The price makes it just right. Where did you get it?
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Thanks. I was at first thinking 2 grams per liter which did not sound at all semi-sweet. But then I saw the %. That is a good dose of r.s. Interesting.

That's just barely over halbtrocken.

In converting a percentage into grams per liter, just think of the percentage with a decimal point and move it one place to the right. In converting grams per liter into a percentage just thing of the grams per liter value with a decimal point and move it one place to the left.
2 % = 2.0 % = 20 g/L
9 g/L = 9.0 g/L = .9 %

Salute

Yes, ok. Definitely not sweet. But definitely not dry either. That's what I meant. Don't have much of a mental reference for Virginia riesling!
