WTN: Cellers Fuentes Finca El Puig Priorat 2002

by Jay Labrador » Sun Aug 23, 2009 11:21 am

Composed of Garnacha, Carinena and Cabernet Sauvignon. Very dark red-violet. Sweet fruit and woody notes on the nose. Bright acidity gives this wine some lightness although it's really more medium-bodied. Juicy, concentrated fruit but the flavor is quite dry and savory. There's a little sweetness provided by some cinnamon spice. There's also a bit of tobacco. Firm but already approachable tannins on a rather short finish. A good, if not particularly interesting, wine for current drinking.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

The problem with Priorat is the different price ranges. One would think the $70 one would be top quality, what will one expect to find in the $38 bottle?
Just musing.
