WTN: Edmunds St. John 2005 Bassetti Vineyard

I've been a big fan of Steve's wines, especially from this vineyard. I picked up a few bottles of the 2005 from Steve on Saturday, and I had to taste one to see how it's coming along.

Poured into the glass you might guess that this is a vintage Port- Inky purple with a dark violet rim. Closed at first, but after 4 hours in a decanter you can start to see what this wine will become. Pure, flawless Syrah varietal character and terroir. Violets, leather bacon fat and dark fruits. Not a fruit bomb at all, (thankfully the fruit bomb isn't Steve's style) but more like all the best characteristics from the northern Rhone along with the best of California terrior. Still in its infancy, this wine will last as long as you can keep it. I'll update everyone sometime around 2015.

Sounds like I should bury my bottles even deeper in the cellar.
