Did my first champagne sabering last weekend

by Peter Finkelstein » Mon Aug 17, 2009 9:08 pm

Being in the business I have wanted to learn how to saber for years. I finally convinced Francois Hurtle of Heidseick Monopole to teach me. He actually brought me a Laguiole Saber from France.

What a trip! I had so much fun I brought a bottle to a small dinner party with friends both Saturday and Sunday nights. Like I said what a power rush!

This could cost me a pretty penny. I can't afford to drink Champagne the way some people drink Franzia Bag in a Box (although I bet me saber could put a real hurting on a bag in a box )

Sabering is one of those things I would like to try...once.

I sabered for the first time this January at a restaurant in the south of Brazil where they teach their clients to do it! It was super fun and very easy, once explained.

Peter, it doesn't have to be champagne, any bubbly will do!

Just make sure you're sober when you saber.
