No stars, no banners, just solid, fruity wine with all the brightness you could ask for & a lingering, citric finish. This is the antidote to all those overweight, soft Rieslings that have been clogging the pipeline.

I've had a couple more 01s recently and I love that sleek, elegant character they have with that spine of acid. And your comment on the finish reminds me of that 01 Christoffel Auslese I had last night - all fresh lime and slate, and staying a long time.

There's a number of 2001s that I am going to begin drinking up - not because they are in danger of imminent demise, but because they are very, very good right now. This is one of them.

Plus the fact that in this heat those 01s seem even more irresistible. :D

If this heat wave doesn't break our Riesling offline on Friday is going to turn into a Muscadet offline.

Bah - if the weather's this bad I'll make an effort to bring along a couple of high-acid 08 Kabinetts or QBAs! :P

a 2001 Merkelbach Urziger Wurziger Spat (AP 11 as there were several) was pretty nice tonight with sauteed wild coho. Good acid balance, but no sharp edges and both texture and flavors easing in to a nice place of early maturity.

Thanks for the note. I have several 01 Strub spatlese and I've been wondering about the drinking windows. I appreciate the update.
