2008 Maison Lafage Cote Est, VDP des Cotes Catalanes:
OK, the 2007 version of this was a delightful, fresh white, as is this one. Compostion this vintage is 50% Grenach Blanc, 30% Chardonnay and 20% Marsanne; last year's version was similar. What is shocking about this year's version it that it is a dead ringer for a nice crisp Gewurztraminer! Very aromatic, with Ivory Soap and lychee notes. Grapefruit and more lychee on the palate, crisp mineral finish. I generally think of the grapes used as not particularly aromatic, but something delightfully strange is going on here. Should cost about $10.
