WTN: Are you being Servenay-ed

by David M. Bueker » Wed Aug 12, 2009 9:17 pm

Since it's a work night, Laura and I opted for a quiet celebration of our 20th wedding anniversary tonight. (We'll pull out the surf and turf stops over the weekend.)

1999 Le Brun Servenay Champagne Blanc de Blancs
This is very young, primary & grapey. Lots of fruit and lots of stuffing to accept cellar time. Drink some now if you want fun, or cellar for a while if you want additional complexity. Nice stuff, and a good value at around $35 for vintage bubbly. All the grapes for the vintage wine are grown by the domaine (the do some NV negotiant stuff as well).

Where do you get all this good Champers? We just get the big house stuff in DC (I rarely get to McArther's). Are you making the trek into Chamber's Street? Your recommendations seem to always pan out for me.
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind

My local place (Table & Vine) brings this in under their own import license. I have always found the NV negotiant stuff to be decent for non-geeks, but this vintage brut is good value for good Champagne.

As an aside, I get a lot of the Terry Theise portfolio Champagnes in New Jersey. That's where I go for my Pierre Peters, Gimmonet, Jean Milan, etc.).
