When to drink '03 Alion?

by Tom Troiano » Wed Aug 12, 2009 1:35 pm

I bought a few bottles of Vega Sicilia Alion 2003 on closeout (from former WLDGer Eden Stone). I have no experiewnce with this wine. Is this something that should be cellared for a while?

Tom, Hi....

Following is my most recent tasting note for the wine in question.

Best
Rogov

Vega Sicilia, Bodegas y Vinedos Alion, Alion, Ribera del Duero, 2003: A good wine, even a very good wine but not up to the anticipated Alion standards. Full-bodied, with gripping tannins and generous spicy wood that seem to object to integrating and only slowly opening to reveal currant, black cherry and cola aromas and flavors, those on a background of minted chocolate. Drink now-2014. Score 89. (Re-tasted 17 Oct 2008)

I've had this wine once, and I would drink up while it is still relatively primary.

Thanks guys! I'll put it in the spot in my cellar for near term drinking.
