Who has tried to pour wine through a screwcap?

by Neil Courtney » Fri Aug 07, 2009 10:18 pm

OK, I admit it. I have been known to pour a glass (or two) of wine from a screw capped bottle, and screw the cap back on. Then later on when the glasses need topping up, pick up the bottle and try to get the wine out without unscrewing first!

Does anyone else do this?

I have yet to do this. But now that you have mentioned it, Neil, I am guaranteed to do so in short order.

I havent tried to pour wine through one, but in their early days I saw a waitress try to apply a corkscrew to one.

...... very easy to do ...... the trick is not to screw the cap back on once you've opened the bottle.

Not done that, but did once try to apply a corkscrew to an already open bottle.

In a wine show as a back room boy, I once whipped the top off a screw cap with a capsule cutter. Then wondered why there was no cork in the neck of the bottle.

I agree. If you screw the cap back on you are really saying that your guest can not have any more. :(
