Purple hued. First whiff reminded me of pepper, licorice and some sandalwood. Same on the tongue with loads of berries. The tannins were beautifully softened and the finish went on and on. Wow! Excellent wine out of Mendocino. Almost reminded me of some good (but pricier) Northern Rhones.
