Silver Oak 2005 Alexander Valley Cab

by Jon Peterson » Thu Aug 06, 2009 2:11 pm

I might take a bonus I've received at work and pick some 2005 Silver Oak tomorrow. I think the price is about $60/botl. While I've read good things in general about 2005 in Calif., I do not recall reading about Silver Oak in particular. Any thoughts from other WLDG'ers?

Yes, it is oaky. But I find a lot of people like that a lot. I find it's always pretty popular among the regular civilians... that is, not wine geeks. At a party in my neighborhood recently, it was far more popular than a reasonably decent bourdeux. While it's not my favorite I am not prepared to say to others that they aren't entitled to their own taste. But I would give a 2005 a few more years if I had the opportunity.

I shouldn't be such a smart ass.

At least you would be supporting a wine family that believes in classy, even classic architecture. (At least at their recently rebuilt Oakville facility). Beautifully done place.

Well, Brian, that's what I would have guessed. Seems like my cash will keep earning point 25 percent for a while longer.
I appreciate your input, too, Glenn.

Unless you're a huge fan of their style I wouldn't do it.

Thanks, Tom. I'm deep-sixing the idea.
