WTN: Rockford Hand Picked Riesling 2001

by Bruce Hayes » Thu Aug 03, 2006 7:41 pm

Eden Valley.

Chemical and petrol notes on the nose.

Rather viscous, heavy petrol-chemical flavours, minerally, a talc-like sensation, peppery, floral, moderate acidity, very little in the way of fruit.

As the wine warmed it did reveal a trace of lime, but the heavy petrol flavours persisted.

A fairly long, tart and slightly dirty finish.

Apart from the petrol on the nose and in the mouth, I wouldn't have guessed a Riesling if I had tasted this blind. Not a good wine, IMHO.

I had heard good things about Rockford Rieslings and was looking forward to opening this bottle. Am I missing something here? Should I have decanted? Should I have thrown this bottle into the cellar and forgotten about it for the next ten years?
