Notes from lunch at Sala with Jojo and Noel.

Domaine de Chevalier Bordeaux Blanc 1983 - Light green/gold. Good fragrance-peach and slightly overripe yellow tropical fruits. Unfortunately, no follow-up on the palate which was muted and austere. The fruit seems to have faded a lot. Rather acidic finish. Seems just over the hill which is a shame as the fragrance was very nice.

Chateau Cos d'Estournel 1986 - The cork was tough to take out but the restaurant staff did a great job in coaxing it out. Just a slight orange on the rim but very youthful color in the core. Beautiful, complex nose. Spice box, fragrant wood, cigar box, curry spice, licorice, baby powder - very complex. On the palate, smoked meat and lots of spice. Very complex and layered. Lots of depth. Soft tannins and drinking beautifully now. Not exceptionally long but still, good length. Excellent wine.

Cordero di Montezemolo Barolo Monfaletto 2001 - Cherry and tar, but no roses. Rather sweet fruit. Soft tannins. Cedar. Rather forward, modern-style Barolo. A very good wine for current drinking although it can undoubtedly age more.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.
