1995 Chateau Larmande Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Classe 13.0%
Dark and youthful garnet. Attractive aromas of dark plums and leather, augmented by coffee and cloves on the palate. Medium to light body - would have appreciated a little more extraction. Dusty tannins, long finish, and, best of all, a deliciously vibrant acidity that held its own against food. The lightest of bitter aftertastes is the perfect finishing touch. Already at cruising altitude, but tastes youthful, as if a decade is left before anything like decline sets in. Only the vaguest hint of oxidation in the final 50ml, after three hours in a large glass, makes me second-guess this last statement. But a very pleasurable experience.
"I went on a rigorous diet that eliminated alcohol, fat and sugar. In two weeks, I lost 14 days." Tim Maia, Brazilian singer-songwriter.
