A new red from Pelee Island Winery, it's a nearly equivalent blend of Foch (33%), Baco Noir (34%) and Zweigelt (33%). Closed with a natural composite cork; 13% alc./vol. $9.95.
Clear, deep scarlet-garnet with a crimson-ruby core. A bit of youthful effervescence at the bottom of the glass. Gamey plums with a torrefied hint, tart red fruits, hints of Zweigelt's white pepper and replays of ripe strawberry. Tart and brisk on the entry; balanced with good focus; Zweigelt pepper right on cue. Warm, quite dry and very pleasant on the palate. Tasty and palate-invigorating, with lots of Baco aromatics but with Zweigelt really coming in strong on the crescendo. Mild tannins. Flavourful, crisp finish.
I love varietal Baco with ribs, and I can see this wine working well with ribs, pizza, burgers, any Italian-style foods in fact.
