WTN: 08 Chateau Lafayette Reneau Dry Riesling

by Dan Smothergill » Sat Jul 25, 2009 4:25 am

A very pale yellow green in color, looks almost white. Spritzy with a lemony nose and minerally. The taste is green apples with good mouth feel and a long, refreshing after taste. Nice balance, neither sugar nor acid predominates. Should smooth out some before long. One to watch among the 08 Finger Lakes Rieslings. The release date is later this summer but I wangled a case the other day. $15 before the case discount.

Dan,

On a recent trip around Seneca Lake I had a chance to taste quite a few '08 rieslings - the wines tend to have better balance than most those from '07, which tend towards the rich and soft. Some good reds made in '07, but I think '08 will be a better vintage for the whites.

I saw the 08 CLR Dry Riesling in Ithaca the other day. Not only has it been released since my earlier post but the price was about $2 less than what I paid at the winery. A very good buy.
