1989 Ch. Puy Blanquet (St. Emilion) – a modest wine at a modest price that had hidden in the cellar for some years. A pleasant surprise when we opened it – a fruit and cedar nose, not terribly notable, but on palate, decent fruit, no doubt now declining, and sift tannins that gave interest to the texture, and good terminal acidity that gave a lively impression. This wine performed above its modest price class, a very pleasant surprise after all these years.

This will forever be a memorable wine for me. Not the '89 vintage, but this producer in general. Back in '98 I tried the '94 vintage of this wine and immediately came to like what seemed to me like dusty blackcurrants with a chalky edge. Problem was that I had never noted the wine's name down or taken a close-up picture of the label, and so for years it remained a forgotten mystery wine.

Then earlier this year I posted this thread and the mystery was solved.

Unfortunately, the wine is no longer available in Ontario.
