Sweet candied cherry core. Pretty, floral. Mellow with a strong middle and a long finish. Some darker notes with tobacco leaf, walnut. Very very nice. Not fading.

"Sweet candied cherry core."
In many notes, that would be a harbinger of a strongly negative opinion. Everything else you said was positive. Was it the sweetness that caused you to downgrade a bit?

Thanks for the note on an old favorite. I always thought this one(and the Geyserville) would last. Tried to save a few but couldn't keep hands off.

This was a pretty ripe wine from the get-go, exhibiting some sweet almost over-ripe notes that were over the top for some.

John - That is a quite respectable score for me, so I don't think I downgraded. A beautiful wine that started out perhaps a bit ripe 15 years ago. I scored this higher than the 93 Pagani and the 93 Lytton. I am far from the expert on old Ridge, however.

I'm no expert on old Ridge, either. It disappears way too quickly.
