WTN: Ridge Monte Bello 1999

Deep core with a bit of fading showing on the rim. Lovely nose, ripe berry, mint, then something more wild or animal showing as well. Beautiful, complex and many-layered.

On the palate, already soft tannins. Warm, rich, deep, superbly balanced. Great concentration of flavor. Bready sourdough-like acidity gives this wine freshness. Slightly cheesy. Again, so many layers of flavor. Stewed meat simmered for a long time. Exciting wine that makes your heart beat faster in anticipation of what else you can discover in it. Oddly, perhaps, good, but not exceptional length. A great wine now but no doubt will continue to gain in complexity over a long time. Exceptional wine.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

Sounds like a fantastic bottle. I've only had the '99 once, and sadly do not have any in my own cellar.
