2003 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Spätlese #11
I had a bottle of this a few months ago and liked it a lot more. Not sure if that was because the barometric pressure was different, or because the earlier bottle was under a Laker playoff victory-haze, but this bottle is much less exciting.
There is some fun zesty mineral zing around the edges but the big middle is just too soft. Certainly not a chore to drink and my wife and I enjoyed finishing the bottle (actually I should take credit for most of that). But it definitely lost points for that soft middle and was also much less compelling than the flowery and fragrant 03 Himmelreich Spätlese from earlier this week.
Not that any of these notes are definitive. I guess in theory I would keep tracking the wines but time is short and I don't have any more. But I'll survive. Plenty of other wines out there.
