WTN: 2003 Schaefer Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese

2003 Willi Schaefer Graacher Himmelreich Spätlese #13

Drinking very nicely. Mellowing and firming a bit in the middle but still lively flowery and fresh (especially considering the vintage) and giving lots of pleasure over a slightly-spicy Chinese meal.

Sounds delicious; I'm amazed how every 03 I've had from Schaefer has seemed so light and fresh considering the year.
(We'll check into an '03 Himmelreich Auslese some time in fall once you head to New England, btw.)

Anotehr positive 2003 data point from Schaefer. I think I am seeing a trend.

Hyping the 03 Schaefer, eh?

Informed consensus at that!

And for what it's worth, I've had two Schaefer 03 spatleses in the past few weeks and they were both lovely but far from mindblowing or special. They were maybe a bit surprising and interesting given the freshness for 2003, but for the most part they were nice pleasant wines. So I don't mean to hype them at all. Just talking about the fun I had drinking them.
