WTN: 2007 La Vieille Ferme rouge

by Drew Hall » Sun Jul 12, 2009 7:42 am

Cotes du Ventoux.

I used to drink this often years ago and haven't touched one in a very long time. While shopping the other day I noticed the 2007 La Vieille Ferme and thought I'd try one from the famed 2007 vintage. Not bad at all. It shows nice black and red fruit, a grenache and syrah blend, with a little spice and finishes nicely with a slight, tannic grip. Would be a nice BBQ wine and I could see serving with a slight chill. Pretty good for $7.00 but with all the deals out there it's hard to spend the money on such a wine when for 2 bucks more you can take a hugh leap up in quality. 13.5% Alc/vol.

I always find LVF dependable, and in a very good vintage maybe a bit more. I agree that I tend to go ahead and spend $8-10, but LVF is good to have around when a recipe calls for 2 cups red, it's not so hard to drink the other 9 ounces!

I've been buying - and drinking this for years. I find it quite acceptable for the cost.

Dittos. Not sure why Wine Styles stopped carrying this!

This wine was (may be still) served in economy class for several years on Britsih Airways European flights and jolly pleasant it is too.

Unfortunately my customers are now at destinations served by so-called low cost airlines...

Had the same wine 2 nights ago and was struck as to how well it tasted compared to what I paid for it - $6 someting at Trader Joes.
