Sicily, mon amie!!

Hi,

Sifted thru postings & could not find any info concerning wines in Sicily.

Aside from well known wineries such as Planeta or Gulfi, are there any places I should look for? I will be spending 3 weeks in Sicily this coming September & am looking forward to discover some gems to be cellared.

Many thanks for your replies, François (in Montreal, Quebec, Canada)

I'm not sure how you "sifted", but I just clicked on the "Search" button at the top of the page and came up with 19 hits (including this one).
Also, if you click on the "WineLovers Discussion Group" text or logo at the top of the page and search the Home Page, you will get 179 hits.

Certainly Donnafugata are worth a look. Their Mille e Una Notte is pretty expensive, but a serious wine. Tancredi is reasonable value.

Others, Malvasia from the Isole eolie (Aeolian Islands) is interesting as a dessert wine (Hauner is decent quality)

Tasca D'Almerita are worth trying

Amongst others. If you get the chance, try the mud baths at Vulcano. There's little else to see there, so it's only worth a half day trip onto somewhere else like Stromboli or Lipari. However the experience is somewhat unusual.

If you make it to Lipari, the Casbah restaurant is pretty good.

Hope you have a great trip

Ian

Ian,

Thanks for your comments.

The Mille e una Notte has really caught my eyes! I guess I will pay a visit to this winery!
