WTN: Marietta Old Vine Red Lot #45

by Jim Grow » Fri Jun 26, 2009 5:47 pm

I started drinking this Marietta Red blend back in Lot #4 and they are up to Lot # 48 or 49 now. I have NOT been drinking it for 45 years so they obviously make more than one lot # per year and they started in 1978 so I'd guess they make 3 lots every 2 years or so. In any event this Lot #45 is still going strong and reminds me of a nice Zinfandel with dark purple color and deep brambly fruit and plenty of tannins to balance but not astringent. Some lots are more Cabernet-ish. They seem to age very well (10 years or so) but not really imporve much. Still can be found for $10 in some markets like D.C.
