WTN: 2005 Gunderloch Nackenheimer Rothenberg GKA

by Salil » Fri Jun 19, 2009 12:18 pm

AP #08-06, 8.5% alcohol, under cork - was this Gunderloch's last cork-sealed vintage?

And yes, this is infanticide. But darn it, it's SO good right now (even though it's incredibly primary). Bright golden yellow colour; incredibly rich and powerful with the ripeness of a Beerenauslese and intense sweet flavours of apricot, mango, melon and other tropical fruits drenched in honey and spices. Despite the concentration and density this feels surprisingly light in the mouth with a glossy, polished texture and good acidity underneath that gives a sense of real freshness to the fruit and honey here. Very long finish with faint salty and smoky notes emerging on the back end underneath all the fruit. Stunning - and this will surely be freaking amazing in a few decades.

I don't know if that was the last time Gunderloch used cork, but I have the same wine under screwcap.
