What are we opening this weekend (6/12 edition)

by David M. Bueker » Fri Jun 12, 2009 7:30 am

My tasting group is having their annual summer dinner tonight (at Dish in Hartford, CT). I'm bringing a 2006 F.X. Pichler Riesling Smaragd Durnsteiner Hollerin and a few reds (we'll pick one to open) including 1998 Guigal Hermitage, 1996 Hudelot Noellat Clos Vougeot and 1996 de Vogue Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru.

I'm hoping the group picks the Guigal, as Dish does a crispy pork shank with bacon cream that is made for Northern Rhone Syrah.

I'd love to know how the 1996 Hudelot-Noellat CdV is getting on.

My fave winestore downtown is having a (sort of ) street party with wine tastings, Portugese BBQ, fashion show and a movie at 10pm. Various 104st establishments are also taking part. I am going to take along a `90 Heidsieck Brut Millesime to share with the hard-working staff at the store!

I plan to open a Moulin a Vent from Jean Paul Brun. I haven't had any Beaujolais Cru from this producer previously. I think it's a 2006 vintage. Next week I have a Casa Carneros Pinot Noir from 2006 to open and then may start into some white wines for summer.

JC-we were discussing Beaujolais last night with some friends, and I may pop open a Kermit Lynch Fleurie import! I'm also thinking about a Sonoma Coast Syrah from Peay (2004 La Bruma).

I have been opening some adolescent cabs from when I first started drinking wine four years ago, so that may continue, also. :) I have a 2003 Signorello that is drinking pretty fine right now...

Probably nothing special, I'm in a bit of a wine slump. But David, talk your group into the Guigal. In my recent experience '96 burgs are in a iffy spot now.

I'm opening up a 2005 Kunde "Vallee de la Lune" (a CdP look-alike).

The 2005 Kunde "Vallee de la Lune" is a delicious, forward, fruity expression of mourvedre, syrah, and other Rhone varieties in a delicious Californian mode. It is thankfully absent of "Sonoma stink" (aka eucalyptus).

This is a delightful wine that is pleasant to drink now, and shows potential to develop some complexity with moderate age. If you can keep your hands off it.

Double Larry.

No wine tonight, had enough at lunch. No idea about tomorrow, and Sunday seems so far away....

Looking forward to your notes - particular curious to hear how that Hollerin shows.
We've got to head to Dish some time in the fall - that pork shank sounds awesome (and we can open my Gangloff then :D).

Back in Singapore now with family, so we'll find some fun stuff to open.

Probably a 2004 Barolo Conca by Ratti. I'm curious about if it is still charming or starting to close down.
Cheers,
