Pollish: What's your M.O. for drinking too much?

Most people have a certain predictable repeated response, where if you know them well enough, you'll know when they've reached their upper tolerance level. I've been tasting wine with the same people long enough to know their S&S (one gets really red faced while the other stares unwaveringly at nothing).

My M.O. happens to be singing Rod Stewart songs (a residual from watching the movie "So I Married an Axe Murder" when much younger). For example, after throwing a wine and food party for my cousin tonight, I began to sing "You're in my heart" under my breath and Amy immediately asked "When did you drink too much?"

So that's my tell; what's yours?

Best,
Joe

p.s. my other tell is posting pollish posts.

I start acting very serious and trying to speak philosophically. I of course don't want people to know I've had too much! (As if that works)

I get all sentimental - sometimes to the point of tears. Unless I've also been drinking beer and eating a lot - then I just fall asleep.

Are you German? That's just what my father and my uncle do, plus most of the members of my father's German club. I will refrain from my own admissions as it often involves proposing to people in the room (gender is not an issue) and doing the whole lampshade sort of routine. Fortunately I have avoided that schtick recently.

Nope - Except for a French-Canadian grandfather, all the rest of my ancestors are potato famine refugees. 8)

I get the urge to light up a good Cuban cigar. Which isn't ever a good idea - my headache the next morning will always be worse that without it.

Joe, I always take the lead from the reactions of folks around me. Learned that lesson from Mark Twain:

"I know they had a fine supper, and plenty of it, but I do not know much else. They drank so much champagne around me that I got confused, and lost the hang of things, as it were."

Mark Twain, “Letter from Carson”, Territorial Enterprise, February 5, 1863.

Regards, Bob

I'll most generally start to talk too much, and I'm positive that what I have to say is earth-shaking, which in reality, it never is.

All things in moderation, James.

Besides, you don't inhale cigars....unless, of course, you want to cough up your spleen.

Sorry, I've seen too much death from tobacco products. I respect your right to spn the wheel of death, my own girth suggests I'm spinning a similar wheel, but please do it outside of my company.

I take pains to enunciate carefully and may look a little unsteady on my feet. I also tend to acquire a wine-colored mustache around my mouth but that can happen sometimes when I'm sober. At a sorority reunion Susie M. said that when she has a couple glasses of wine she talks too much. I said when I have a couple glasses of German wine I start talking German. Ann K. who majored in German said "Really?" I answered "jawohl!"

I gesture more wildly with both hands, often neatly removing the stem of my wine glass in the process. We keep many cleaning solutions on hand.

My ears get numb--so if you see me pulling on earrings, you know I have past the point of rescue!

I have a friend that starts with the Burt Bacharach tunes--maybe he and Doris could do a duet?

I'm not saying that I never have a little too much, but I honestly don't know if I do anything in particular that signals to others that I'm there.
Although if I get out my Dandy Warhols CD, watch out....

When whatever I'm saying bores the hell out of me also. The least you can do when you're not able to communicate is to keep your mouth shut.
